Review: AKG C12 VR
overall quality, stunning sound on acoustic instruments, world-wide standard AKG sound
none except the very high cost
The modern replica of the historic C12. Yes, the suond of this new C12 is far away from the original, but’ it’s certainly a true high-end tube microphone. The capsule is the original CK12, and the overall quality of costruction and components is really high.
The VR uses a 6072A tube and the external PSU allows to choice from 9 patterns. The sound is the typical mellow AKG sound open in the top-end and incredibly warm. It’s absolutely the first choice for every AC guitar, the suond of this mic with this instrument is stunning. A little tough instead with vocals: it’s not the standard vocal microphone (as all the AKG mics) because of the mellow tone, but could be the best choice for some type of voices, you just have to try it!
