Review: AKG K240
Positives:Great sound, great price
Negatives:excessive volume causes bleed
Since there is no category for headphones, I’m placing this in monitors, since technically, these are monitoring devices.
The AKG K240 headphones have been around over a decade. The newest incarnations of these studio mainstays feature a removable (read replaceable) cable and not much else different. These semi-open back cans deliver a terrific, well balanced sound right to your ears. The adjustable top band and well padded ear cups make for a very comfortable fit for just about everyone (unless you have BIG hair) that you can wear for hours at a time and not weigh your head and neck down. Bass response is great (and better than I would expect from a sub $100 set of cans). Being that they are semi-open back, when used with “excessive” volume, mic’s can pick up quite a bit of bleed from these guys so if you’re one of those folks ( “Turn the headphones up!” ) then these might not be for you for tracking. I have run more than a few (dozen) mixes JUST using these headphones and with a minimal learning curve, mixes can translate really well to other devices.
