Review: Audix OM3
Huge SPL rating, great feedback control, tight pick up pattern.
Dynamic vocalists really need to be careful when pulling away.
Ideally a vocal mic the Audix OM3 is a great live mic and pretty good studio mic too. Live the hypercardioid mic provides great clarity that picks up almost no spill and will be the last mic on the stage to cause feedback. With an SPL rating of 145, distortion won’t occur with even the loudest of singers plus a sturdy design the OM3 is a pretty robust mic for live sound.
In the studio I use the mic often for putting down rough vocals and everyone in the room is often surprised at how good it sounds, even to the point of using it for the finished song.
With a frequency response from 50Hz to 18kHz and a 3dB boost from around 6kHz to 15kHz, the Om3 provides a warm yet clear sound. I bought this mic in a rush as a replacement for a SM58. At first I was wary of its ability but the mic has won me over and I now value it over my SM58.
