Review: Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO Closed Circumaural Studio Headphones
Positives:Flat response but not boring, Amazing comfort
Negatives:exposed wires to cans, build could be heavier
Great headphones. The main reason I purchased these headphones was comfort. My main headphones before these were ATH-M50’s (great headphones) but after a while of tracking or checking mixes my ears started to hurt. I was blessed with larger ears so finding the right headphones has been a challenge. The ATH are flat on the can part. The Beyers have large round cans that completely engulf the entire ear, not flattening them at all. On top of that the plush cloth is cozy.
On to the sound. My ATH’s are very exciting to listen too, great for tracking, great for casual listening, and good for mixing. But, the low end is very big and a little bit hyped (but not too bad). Since getting the beyers they are now my go to mix headphones. The response is very flat and true to the mix. They pair very nicely to my focal monitors and make a good second listen. At the same time they are not boring and can be fun for casual listening. But beware of your ohms, I have the 250 ohm and my iphone cannot power these bad boys. If you will be using these on an ipod, laptop or other consumer sources make sure to get the 80 ohm version. Here in the studio its not really a problem although they do require more volume than my other headphones.
If you are looking for pro level monitors with a nice even response and serious comfort get these. If you want booty shaking bass and that little red b on the side, get beats by dre.
