Review: Cascade Fat Head II Ribbon Microphone
Positives:Great build, top notch ribbon sound, amazing price, nice accessories
Negatives:Not a one
My favorite microphone for electric guitar, hands down. I feel spoiled by having two cascade ribbons because I dont think I could ever spend a ton of dough on a Royer. They are that good and the price is fantastic. Whenever possible go for the upgraded Lundahl transformer. Both my fat head and vin jet have them. These are great mics that have an amazing build quality, pro sound, and very nice carrying cases. The Fat Head comes in a wooden box, the wooden box, and shock mount also very nice come in a nicely made aluminum flight case. I am very impressed with cascade mics and especially my fat head II.
It is very full sounding and even though its a ribbon its not too bass heavy but be prepare for some definite roll off. What I like most about ribbon mics in general are the highs. The fat head highs are smooth and never harsh and brittle. You can purchase them directly from their site or search around a little and find some deals.
