Review: Daking Mic Pre 500
Very Smooth and heavy sounding MicPre in a small package. Built in HPF and up to 70 db of Gain for low SPL mics. Front panel knobs and VU meters feel very smooth and allow for more tweaking than the full featured MicPre IV.
Sometimes the color of the pre is a little overwhelming and comes through more with louder singers. The sides are not covered so any poorly built modules might knock into it and cause interference. Infinitely variable pots make it near impossible to recall.
Daking’s Mic Pre 500 is a redesigned version of a single channel from their popular Mic Pre IV in a module format for use in 500 Series racks. Like the Mic Pre IV, the Mic Pre 500 uses a Jensen input transformer, Class A, discrete transistor circuitry. In other words its just a really smooth and bold pre amp.
