Review: Slate Digital FG-X Virtual Mastering Processor
Positives:* It's a doddle to use * All the knobs do exactly what they say * The metering is really really helpful * The end results knocked me off my feet * It took me 10 minutes to stop laughing at how ridiculously good this is. The single best bit is the "constant gain monitoring". No long will your ears be fooled by the "anything louder is better" problem. The effect of each little tweak of any knob is clear and unobscured by volume changes. So, when you finally disengage the "constant gain monitoring" button, your beautifully crafted mix leaps out of the speakers and gives you a massive slobbery kiss right in your face, leaving you both astounded and feeling slightly dizzy.
Negatives:Negatives. Are you kidding?
The Slate Digital Virtual Mastering Processor makes my mixes sound massive. In a world where the “loudness wars” still wage battle, this is the laser cannon I need to defend my territory.
