Positives:

Incredibly classy, polished sound on many sources.

Negatives:

When it isn't working, you know it. Top heavy or siblant artists may not work. Usually the AK-47 will fit the bill as these two microphones cover a lot of ground. At the $1895 price tag we would like to see a nicer mic case. It comes in a cardboard case?!

My Review

Pretty darn good “polished” or premixed sound. My vocals tend to need less eq when tracked through this mic. One word of caution, if your source is siblant or nasal, this mic may not be your first choice. It is a microphone built in China, and designed and tested in the US, which allows Telefunken to offer many of the characteristics of its $8k+ microphones at a fraction of the cost.

"This is the way to get into big sound with less money. Definitely not a cheap mic but compared to other high end mics it is reasonable. I acquired this mic with the first capsule they shipped with, and I thought the mic was excellent but lacking in the low end. I shipped my mic to T Funk for a nominal fee and had the capsule upgraded to the one they currently ship the mics with. Wow what a difference. The low end issue was completely gone. The thing about this mic is that is a more modern mic, call it vintage modern. Depending on the voice it will sit very well in a mix. Careful about the sibilance with certain singers and just like any mic it is not for every voice. I also use it a lot on acoustic guitar and drum room. Didnt find it very good on electric guitrars for my taste."

"Pro level mic at a reasonable cost. Very present and forward sound. excellent on acoustic guitars. Build is great. a nice heavy mic with a good shockmount and power supply."

"Watch the sibilance with certain singers. Not a swiss army mic for all sources. Cardboard box it comes with (the whole kit, the mic itself has a wooden box) is lame but that would bring the cost up!"

    "$1300 (used)"
