Legacy product, now that they've released updated emulations
Universal Audios original take on Pultecs are in a league of their own
Universal Audio has always on top of their game with their emulations, and their original Pultec Pro plugin is no exception. At first glance, the Pultec Pro by UAD contains the famous EQP 1A and the equally known MEQ 5. The EQP 1A known for its exceptional low end, and high midrange control, and it’s unique ability to boost AND cut the same frequency at the same time. And the MEQ5 which focuses on the Midrange frequencies. The two together work perfectly well. The MEQ5 cleaning up the midrange “Honky” or “Muddy” frequencies work exceptionally well. This shines for vocals, and acoustic instruments alike. I love the tone it imparts on acoustic guitars and wind instruments. The “tube” quality works well with overpowering resonant frequencies or annoying ones. The EQP 1A is another beast on it’s own. I love the monstrous power it adds to kicks drums. The unique feature of being able to boost 60 HZ as well as cut it, creates a kind of an odd slope control for the low shelf taking place from the boosting. It can really give you an OCD type of control that is very unique and beneficial. The same applies to the High frequencies, allowing you to boost and cut the same frequency. I love the EQP 1A on Vocals and it really makes things very nice with the “tube” saturation associated with the emulation. This is a plugin set that can be used for just about anything and it will not fail to bring good results. So much so that you can just apply an instance without any eq on your master fader and it instantly sounds gorgeous.
