Review: Universal Audio 6176 Channel Strip
Positives:610 Pre and full 1176 compressor in one magical box
Negatives:Pre is not for everything, pricey
What a box! You get a UA610 Preamplifer with an 1176 compressor. Keep in mind you are getting a full 1176 not a “lite” version. It is no different then the regular single channel rack version unlike the LA 610 which features a LA2a type compressor, not the actual thing. Also you dont just get a 610 pre, you get a 2 band EQ and various impedence settings not found in the regular 610.You have the option to use it as a strip or separate the pre and the comp which is of course very handy. Also, you can stereo link the compressor.
It is amazing as a vocal preamp, total vintage tube sound with the ultimate compressor. You can also forget about ever using anything else for bass. Just plug in direct and go. It sounds like a full bass rig.
I really enjoy using it to mix down tracks to get them out of the box. Run it through, use the EQ (not surgical) and compressor then send it back in. Warms up your tracks and can really help “glue” things together>
If it is in your budget this is an essential studio tool.
