Review: Vertigo VSC2 Compressor
Love the sidechain functions
smooth yet aggressive depending on how you set them up
very SSL like
A $6000 compressor at the click of a mouse with astonishing results
The Vertigo VSC-2 is one of the best sounding compressor plugins I’ve had the pleasure of using. Painstakingly emulated by the great people at Brainworx, The VSC 2 compressor is a powerhouse plugin. The VSC2 captures the unique compression artifacts of the original hardware, all 4 hand built VCAs using discrete components. This is one of my go-tos on my master fader. It mimics the famous SSL buss compressor with ease with a few more tricks up it’s sleeve. The Sidechain filter is a fantastic and very intelligent addition, which works well on the master buss. Adding a Sidechain at 90 hz keeps the compressor smoother on overall material without pumping too much due to the punch of the kick and bass, this makes it ideal on duties with mastering. Its aggressive but round. I love it on vocals, with a slow enough attack, it can really add character and depth to your source. On drums it is a different beast completely. It smashes drums with minimal effort and still sounds very good and usable. It doesn’t easily break up like other plugins are known to do. On bass, it rounds out the transient and remains very musical sounding. Its a great overall compressor plugin that easily shatters other competitive compressors. Give it a try and you might just be replacing your “go-to” master buss comp.
