Transient Designer 4

The Original.

The Transient Designer is a dynamic tool that allows re-shaping transients and envelopes.

The Transient Designer supplies a revolutionary notion for dynamic processing rendering controls for example Threshold, Ratio and Get superfluous. The Transient Designer gives a really elaborated automation, so while the processing going on inside the box may be quite complicated, the user needs to handle just a pair of intuitive controls.

Differential Envelope Technology

SPL’s Differential Envelope Technology is the very first analog remedy for level-independent shaping of envelopes permitting transients to be accelerated or slowed down and sustain prolonged or shortened. The degree of dynamic processing essential to do this couldn’t be duplicated even using a chain of several traditional compressors, yet only two controls per channel are necessary to let the user to fully reshape the attack and sustain characteristics of a sound. Attack could be amplified or attenuated by as much as 15dB whilst Sustain might be amplified or attenuated by up to 24dB, enabling weak drum sounds to become made much more percussive and strong, or for over-percussive transients to become softened. All required time constants (Attack, Decay and Release) are automated and optimised adaptively within a musical manner in line with the characteristics on the input signal. This results in natural sounding signal processing and quickly operation.

How does it perform?

The Transient Designer utilizes envelope followers to track the curve of the all-natural signal in order that optimum final results are guaranteed no matter the input signal’s dynamics. Because of the level-independent processing inherent in Differential Envelope Technologies (DET), manual threshold adjustments will not be necessary.

Other attributes and connectivity

For stereo operation the Link function connects channel pairs (1 and two and/or three and 4). Linked channels are controlled by the same side-chain voltage so as to preserve a coherent and stable stereo image. When operating in Link-mode, the control components of the 1st (or third) channel, like the Active switch, handle the second (or fourth) channel, as well.

Sound benefits

  • The attack of a bass drum or a loop can be emphasised with a single control to increase the punch and the penetration in the mix
  • Sustain of a snare or room-sound can be shortened very musically to clean up the mix for more transparency
  • Acoustic or electronic instruments become “in the face” sounds or can be smoothened with lower attacks
  • De-verb capability! Less Sustain shortens reverb flags of any sound (more elegant than gates do)
  • New panorama effects based on different dynamic effects per channel – try this with loops for example

Each and every channel is equipped having a relay challenging bypass circuit to make sure a minimum signal path once the approach is bypassed and to provide energy fail safety. The Signal-LEDs let to rapidly monitor the signal flow, that’s especially essential when the four channels are connected to a patchbay. The Transient Designer is fitted with XLR-connectors for balanced operation. To improve signal high quality, SPL has created a brand new hybrid-component balanced input/output stage using all laser-trimmed resistors with a tolerance of 0.01%. This strategy has resulted in an exceptionally higher CCMR (prevalent mode rejection) greater than -80dB at 1kHz.
